Sprinklers save burning business from ruin

A fire sprinkler system is credited with saving a burning El Mirage business from total destruction, firefighters say.
The Sun Cities Appliance store at 12329 Northwest Grand Ave. caught fire Friday night.
The fire appears to have been caused by an overloaded electrical cord, said El Mirage Fire Chief Howard Munding.
Damage to the store, estimated at $15,000, was confined to the area of origin because the building was protected by the sprinkler system, Munding said.
No other businesses were damaged.
