The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), the longest-tenured fire sprinkler advocacy organization in the U.S., commends State Farm Insurance Company for reminding its homeowner policy holders that fire sprinkler systems are the only proactive form of fire protection. State Farm is one of the fewinsurance providers that are helping to educate homeowners on the life and property saving benefits of residential fire sprinklers from the ravages of fire.
State Farm recently published an article on its website titled “8 Reasons to Install a Home Fire Sprinkler System,” which provides its policy holders with the facts on residential sprinklers. The article highlights the fact that smoke alarms are reactive by alerting people to fire but sprinklers are proactive by extinguishing the blaze, mitigating the risk to individuals affected by the blaze, including firefighters and other first responders.
Fire does not discriminate and can strike at any time and in any type of home, but working smoke detectors and fire sprinklers can help prevent potential injuries and tragedies from occurring. Properly installed and maintained fire sprinklers control and typically extinguish a fire before the fire department even arrives on the scene. More importantly, the presence of fire sprinklers mitigates the risk to individuals affected by the blaze, including firefighters and other first responders.
“State Farm’s decision to educate their customers on residential fire sprinkler systems and the protection to both life and property they provide is extremely commendable,” said Russell Fleming, President of the NFSA. “While many insurance companies already offer discounts on homeowner policies when residential fire sprinkler systems are installed, few really champion the education of their customers on the benefits of having the lifesaving system. State Farm has been instrumental in advocating for residential fire sprinklers with its support of The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition. We appreciate State Farm’s support in educating their policy holders on this important life safety issue.”
