VANDALIA, Ohio (AP) - Firefighters say a sprinkler system helped contain a trash fire and prevent any significant damage to a southwest Ohio waste facility.
Four fire departments responded to the fire early Tuesday morning at a Montgomery County Solid Waste facility in Vandalia after an alarm went off and people called 911 to report heavy smoke.
WDTN-TV in nearby Dayton reports firefighters found smoldering trash at the bottom of a large waste pile. They believe it had been smoldering for hours.
Vandalia Chief Chad Follick tells the station that the sprinklers prevented damage to the building itself.
No injuries were reported.
