from hbindependent.com

An automatic sprinkler system in a multi-family residential structure near downtown Huntington Beach extinguished a fire and prevented further damage, according to authorities.
The Huntington Beach Fire Department responded to a report that a sprinkler system in one unit had activated around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Townsquare Lane.
According to a statement by the fire department, the fire had been doused by the sprinklers by the time first responders arrived. Fire crews helped salvage items and removed standing water from within the residential unit.
Authorities reported no injuries and said the unit from which the fire originated suffered smoke and water damage. A neighboring unit also incurred water damage.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
