Two firefighters have died and two others have been seriously injured in a 5-alarm fire in an old warehouse in Philadelphia's Kensington section that spread to a nearby furniture store early this morning, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The newspaper says the firefighters were trapped in the furniture store that caught fire as embers jumped from the nearby warehouse.
Embers also set fire to some of the nearby homes.
The newspaper says residents of about 300 homes were evacuated as firefighters battled the blaze for three hours before bringing it under control.
ABC2 News says the fire department reported hearing explosions coming from inside the building.
