Firefighters said sprinkler systems made all the difference for a couple of apartment fires.
The Charleston Fire Department responded to a ninth-floor apartment fire at 1311 Renaissance CircleTuesday morning.
Firefighers said a fire started in the kitchen, but the fire was put out by the apartment's sprinkler system, which was still on when crews arrived. No one was hurt and firefighters helped clean up.
Shortly after that fire, crews responded to a second-floor apartment fire at 1000 Washington St. East. A steam cleaner caught on fire, but the sprinkler system extinguished that fire as well, and crews helped clean up.
The damage at both apartments was minimal.
