Arson charge pending in Vegas Golden Nugget fire

Fire investigators in Las Vegas are charging a 33-year-old homeless man with arson and attempted murder in a fire last month at the downtown Golden Nugget hotel-casino.
Fire spokesman Tim Szymanski (zim-ANN'-skee) said Monday that Jerod Pressnell remains hospitalized in custody but faces charges that could get him decades in state prison in the March 15 fire.
Sprinklers snuffed out flames but Pressnell was overcome by smoke in a room on the unoccupied 22nd floor of the casino's 25-story of Rush Tower.
A motive hasn't been disclosed, but Szymanski says arson investigators found that a safety system had been tampered with.
No one else was hurt. Guests were evacuated from upper floors before firefighters found Pressnell unconscious near a window of the room with boxes of smoldering linen and bedding.
