Toddler Starts Severn House Fire, Sprinklers Put It Out

FD_BannerJust before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 th , Anne Arundel County Firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire in the 1800 block of Sea Pine Circle in the Severn area of Anne Arundel County.  The first unit to arrive on the scene reported nothing evident from a three-story townhouse.  Upon further investigation, personnel found a bedroom fire on the third floor that had been contained by the homes sprinkler system.  In all, it took 24 Firefighters approximately 15 minutes to bring the incident under control.  The home suffered approximately $20,000 in damages.
Smoke alarms in the home activated, alerting the residents. The cause of the fire was determined to be a 4 year-old child playing with a lighter. Three adults and two children were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross.  No injuries were reported.
