Fire sprinklers save lives

Iam writing this letter in response to the fire that occurred on Jan. 8 at 3130 N. Lake Shore Drive. I was under the impression that the City of Chicago had passed a ruling that ordered building owners to equip their buildings with some sort of life safety system. I was shocked to hear that this ruling has not been enforced and the result is the loss of human life. From what I have read on this subject, building owners are citing the cost of equipping a building with fire sprinklers as the problem. I truly believe that the cost of supplying fire sprinklers would be dramatically less than the cost of just one lawsuit linked to a death in a fire. Please begin enforcing these regulations and stop the senseless loss of money and human life.
